FORUM POSTING REGULATIONS - PLEASE READ (update 10/7/08)
« on: May 16, 2007, 03:16:12 AM »
When the forum moved hosting, we never got around to bringing over a copy of the old rules and regulations. So, I've finally sat down and drafted a new set. Everyone should take a minute to read through.

I've kept them brief, and also deliberately phrased some of these in fairly general terms, particularly regarding the conduct of members. Rather than sticking rigidly to a set of specific, concrete rules, we feel it's better to leave some leeway for the staff to use their discretion.

Ultimately, we're all here to enjoy some discussion - these regs are just to help maintain an environment conducive to that.

-----------------------------

CONDUCT
-We would hope that people can, by and large, remain civil when addressing each other. We will not force you to be polite and friendly sometimes tempers rise and people use harsh words, that's human nature but if an argument degenerates into just insult-slinging then we'll probably close the thread.

-Similarly, whilst people will of course joke around, if a thread becomes nothing but pointless banter with no real content, it may get shut also.

-We don't appreciate things like racism and homophobia here. If you preach hatred, condone repression or kick off a flamewar through your bigoted views, we'll get rid of you pretty fast.

-Don't spam. Don't troll. This is obvious, right?

POST CONTENT
-Please don't post shocking or disgusting inline images (example: horrible injuries). If you think they're relevant to a serious discussion, link to them offsite, with a warning. However, don't link them just for kicks or to shock people.

-Mild nudity is ok providing users are warned before they see the pic (ie in thread title, or the description of a link). No porn please.

-There is a report post function; use this if you feel a post is really unacceptable (porn, racism, trolling, repeated harassment etc). However please don't use it just to let us know someone's being a bit of a jerk.

KEEP IT TIDY
-Keep inline images to a maximum size of 800x600. Larger images should be added as a post attachment or linked to offsite.

-Avatars must be no larger than 100x100.

-Sig images must be no larger than 75 Pixels High x 450 Pixels Wide, and 60kb in size. If you're using an image, plz don't put more than a couple of lines of text with it. Keep text-only sigs to a reasonable size too. For the full regs on this subject, see this thread.

update:
also if the majority of your posts say LOL!!!, you need to die.

You might need to reevaluate the last ruling about images in signatures......I believe that Bernd and BorgMan have allowed this last competition design winner that privilege of having a signature image.

In which case that would be a special exception to the rule, not the standard for the whole board. As you stated, it's a privilege.

Given my sense of humor and uh... hobby... can you define mild nudity as in what would be acceptable/not.   Given the youth of some members of this forum and the fact that people post here from work last thing I want is to cause a problem.

I think the best idea is always just to post a link with a clear warning it's not quite work safe. That way nothing can go wrong.

To put it simply, if it could be featured in Playboy, it's fine. If it could only be shown in Hustler or something more hardcore, it's not.

Nudity in a link, with a NSFW warning and a brief description of the content, is fine.

No penetration, no oral sex, no fingering anything, no using dildos, no close-ups of genitalia that look like they were taken from the Hubble Space Telescope, no beastiality or other weird shit like Tubgirl (I'm looking at you, Setekh)... I think you get the picture.

Use common sense and your best judgment. Don't keep trying to push the boundaries just for the sake of seeing how far you can go (I'm looking at you, Setekh). So long as everyone acts responsibly then there won't be a problem.

If you think something is crossing the line feel free to PM me and I'll suffer through the horrifying task of having to review porn to see if it is acceptable to post in a link. I'm willing to make that sacrifice for the good of the community, so long as it doesn't become a sausage-fest or if you try and gross me out with pictures of extremely obese chicks or amputees or things of that nature (I'm looking at you, Setekh). You can send all the pics of naked dudes to Stoo. ;D

Gee, Bond... mighty selective with your criteria there.   Are you attempting to use reverse psychology on us?   ::)

Morbid-obese amputee sausage-fest bestiality  XTREME-closeups with vigorous fingering...  let me see what I got here.

*rummages through shock-porn folder*

Oh, and you forgot fisting so I assume that's ok, right?     ???

Alrighty, I'm done here.  ;D ;D ;D

That would fall under the "no penetration, no fingering (fingers are part of a fist, so yes, I'm including it), no weird shit, and no posting stuff that Setekh would post" clauses of the rules. ;D

Ok this was already degenerating into a banter thread, so i've trimmed a few posts. Keep it relevant to the topic at hand, guyz.

Alright then.  If we do have a chat window added to the forum, would the same rules apply to it as well?

Good question - problem being we don't really have the resources for full-time monitoring of chat.

Why? what are all the mods doing all day they can't post or monitor the site much any more.

I would think a chatroom would have differing rules. Chat goes away into the vapor, while board posts stay for all to see.

Actually on the old SCN we printscreened a few embarrassing exchanges and posted them on the board.

We could possibly deal with incidents retrospectively, but constant monitoring of a realtime chat would be implausible. We have to do crazy things like work, sleep etc after all.

Didn't the old chat record itself, or create a constant chat log that the mods could view at any point?

Yeah, with the old chat that Groupee offered, there was a log of everything that was said in the chatroom so we could check up on what was going on or look and see what exactly was said if there was some sort of problem.  So I think it would depend on what kind of chat software if any that we end up getting.

That being said, I would say that the same rules apply to chat that apply here at the board, regardless of any circumstances.

Yeah but dealing with a problem after the event, based on the records, is different to dealing with a problem as it happens or pre-empting it (which is often preferable). Chat is a much-more quickfire thing, arguments happen in the space of 5 minutes rather than 5 hours.

No we don't have a chat, though we're considering picking up some sort of chat software if possible.  I was speaking hypothetically.
