Also, just a reminder - when your CMP/CMP200 entry is complete.....be sure to put a link to your development thread IN THIS THREAD AS WELL. If your thread is not linked, then we cannot consider it an official entry.

If Ship was 100 meters, then the attachment would have to be 100 meters or less. So If the attachment that is used lengthens the ship beyond that, it'll be breaking the rules.

Thats a valid point, actually. What if someone wanted to design a new tug/cargo ship similar to the one we saw in Enterprise, where the actual ship itself is fairly small, but can have a train of cargo pods attached to the back that could be any length the ship could conceivably pull?

The way I took C Horton's question........is that the ship design in question could extend itself beyond the 200 meter limit. The Voyager had the variable geometry nacelles....when they were engaged, the fact that they moved ALTERED the width of that ship.....so it could change it's measurements. The phoenix warp ship.....the warp engines when engaged came out of a niche......altering the dimensions of the ship. That's why I said the COMPLETE vessel is to be 200 meters or under.
Let's take an example of a cargo ship. The ship itself would be under 200 meters, ny cargo containers/pods that would take the length over 200 meters would be shown SEPERATELY. The pods would NOT be included in the offical submission entry. They can be shown to help explain and to add to the background of the ship, but the entry itself MUST be 200 meters or under.

So if I submit a design that, minus pods, is less than 200 m, then it's legal, correct?

As long as its 200m or less, yes its legal.
Btw: How long are these pods?

C Horton - As long as the ship can 'operate' independently of the 'pods'. If the addition of 'pods' are required for your ship to operate, be spaceworthy in other words, then that is okay.
( In re-reading what I posted,l I realized I left it kind of ambiguous. - so, let me clarify - If the pods are a neccessary component of the ship to operate.....and those pods take it over the 200 meter limit, then that would NOT be okay as the complete ship is over 200 meters. )

Hello, I just read about this contest over on Trekbbs from Borgman. I was wondering if there would be any problem entering a design into the contest. I started working on the design about a week ago so I don't think it would be disqualified as "prior art", but I wanted to clarify here first before posting it. You can see the original thread here: http://trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=108278Thanks for your time.

Technically, your start date of the design would fall within the designated time period.......so, welcome. Just remember to read through the rules and to properly title your entry thread with either the CMP or CMP200 prefix and to put a link to that thread in this thread so it can be counted as an official entry.
and Welcome to the SCN.

I tagged along too. I take it someone got the year wrong in the first post announcing the competition, otherwise we need to design a time ship?

Ah, I see what you mean. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he means the end date is Febuary 2010, not Feb 2009. I'm glad...progress on mine is going slowly enough at the moment without the stress of having to have finished it 9 months ago.

The Contest is still young, so i don't see a problem with sojourner or anyone else entering. The only thing we judges require is keep us posted with Updates on various ships that contestants come up with. Just as reminder. Here are the rules as put down by Rick King. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HERE ARE THE RULES OF THE COMPETITION. You must submit at the very minimum 2 views (side and top), preferably 3 (side, top, fore/aft/bottom). +1 point to Quality of Artwork will be given for all 5 views. Both 2D and 3D work is accepted, along with a large variety of 2D mediums (hand-drawn/paint/Illustrator/etc). If there are enough 2D and 3D submissions I will consider marking them seperately, but for the moment they are all marked together. Kitbashing is also allowed, although original work is prefered. However, use of 'shipkits' is completely forbidden. You must submit at least a basic number of specifications (role/dimensions/armaments/defense/etc). Full specifications is prefered. A design history is worth +1 point to your Specifications score. Artwork is judged by 4 judges, who will each mark a design based on three criteria: Quality of Artwork Vessel Design Specefications These will be marked out of a maximum of 10, then they will be added together, the averages taken and your final score given out of 30. Highest score wins. If you want to be a judge, please post in this thread indicating that you want to be a judge if we have more than 3 applicants, I'll decide on the final judges through a random selection means. I will not consider applications from any other thread. You have 1 day from now to post your application. There is also a 5th free floating judge (me) to cover if a judge enters the competition. If you enter the competition, please start a new thread with your entry and have the thread title start with [CMP]. POST A LINK FROM YOUR COMPETITION THREAD IN THIS THREAD AS WELL_______________________ The judges are Greg, BorgMan, WhiteWolf<(That's me), Galen. With Rick King as a Free Floating Judge. Think of Rick like an Admin of sorts in this Contest. Edit: I changed from 3 judges to 4 in the official rules to include Galen and to keep things current.

WOW !!!! I just counted and it appears we have 16 CMP/CMP200 threads going. This is fantastic. If all the entries get completed and linked to this thread in time, this could well go down as one of the most successful competitions in my memory. Thank you all for entering, although with 16 entries, will make judging quite the daunting task.

Seeing as it's been a while since someone posted in this thread, I'd like to remind all participants that they have less than a month less until the competition finishes on the 4th of February.
Please remember to post a link to your thread here when you have completed your entry.

I am considering extending the deadline as we had some late comers come in after the official start of the competition. It's not set in stone yet whether or not I will, but if any of the judges have an opinion regarding an extension, PM me and let me know what you think.
