An Unfortunate downtime...
« on: June 24, 2015, 05:14:13 AM »
I wanted to give everyone a heads up that SCN may be down for a little while, tomorrow or the next day, until I/we (the mods & Admins) can get the payment for hosting secured. So far I haven't heard from anyone else on the Admin staff about helping to pay for hosting this year and it's due Thursday.

Unfortunately, I don't have the funds myself to pay it, otherwise I would just go ahead and cover it, but I'm strapped for cash at the moment due to an unforeseen dental emergency. I had to have a molar pulled yesterday.

So while I hate to solicit funds from the general membership, I will say that if anyone wants to help cover the 83.40 that it costs to keep the lights on, you can contribute via paypal. My email is Jimijames.jon@gmail.com.

It's not the software we use, it's the place that is hosting us that's the problem.

FLO is correct, in that it's not the forum software but the price of hosting that is at issue here. Our current host is a holdover from when SCN and a few associated sites were much more active and required more bandwith and storage than what was available for free at the time. Now that things have died down considerable, it may very well be worth looking into going with a free forum/hosting service.

Unfortunately, I'm extremely strapped for cash  :-[

No need to take such measures Net1, the bill has been covered. The lights shall stay on one more year.

Thanks to everyone that contributed. :)

Hey Net, wanna chill with the images in pretty much every single one of your posts. Not to discourage you or anything but when its not an artwork thread or an image that you are using to illustrate a point then they really aren't needed.

And I'm glad that the bill got covered in time, over the next year we will look into either finding cheaper hosting or a different way of covering the costs so we don't end up having to worry about this same thing happening next year.

Glad everything worked out.  I would have donated some cash but I completely missed this post.
“The boat dipped and swayed and sometimes took on water, but it did not sink; the two brothers had waterproofed it well. I do not know where it finally fetched up, if it ever did; perhaps it reached the sea and sails there forever, like a magic boat in a fairytale. All I know is that it was still afloat and still running on the breast of the flood when it passed the incorporated town limits of Derry, Maine, and there it passes out of this tale forever.” ― Stephen King, It"
